5.9L DODGE CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONSDiesel Oils and Oil Filter My first recommendations are to change your oil to the AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil Part #AME-1G CASE (4 gallons). Cases of quarts or 5 gallons are also available. The Series 3000 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel oil is also an excellent choice and is a more fuel efficient type of diesel oil if you accumulate most of your miles on the highway. Change the 15W-40 AME or 5W-30 HDD oil at 25,000-mile/1-year drain intervals. Use the AMSOIL EAO-80 (EA-1 Filter) Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter changed at 25,000-mile/1-year intervals. Note: For 2006 models to qualify for the one year oil change program you must use the Series 3000 5W-30 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil and the EAO-80 oil filter. The 15W-40 Diesel Oil (AME) is not recommended. For 2007 and newer models you must use the new low ash 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oil (Product Code: DEO) and change your oil at the longest manufacturer’s recommended change interval.
Air Filters For 2003 and newer models, use AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Air Filter EaA189. For 1994-2002 models use the AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Air Filter EaA106. These filters are specified and guaranteed for 4 years or 100,000 miles. It utilizes nanofiber technology that absolutely no other company offers except AMSOIL. It outflows, stops more dirt and outperforms every other oil filter on the market.
Transmission Fluid Use the 5 Gallon size ATF-TP (CA- CASE) Synthetic Transmission Fluid. Before installing, change the transmission filter and gasket. The AMSOIL ATF change interval specification is three times longer than manufacturer's recommendations with petroleum ATF. Use a transmission fluid exchange machine to install AMSOIL ATF in the automatic transmission.
5-speed manual transmissions use AMSOIL MTG Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid, and 6-speed transmissions use AMSOIL MTF Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid.
Gear Lube Use the Severe Gear 75W-140 Synthetic Gear Lube in the front and rear axles, or you can also use the Severe Gear 75W-140 in the rear and the Severe Gear 75W-90 in the front or 75W-90 in both front and rear for newer models. Capacities are in your owner's manual. You will need about 8 quarts to do both the front and rear. I recommend Loctite "The Right Stuff" silicone for re-sealing the differential covers, available in auto parts stores and NAPA. If you have a limited slip differential, in most cases, you will not need to add friction modifier. In some cases, if you do hear chatter on turns, and then you will need to install a bottle of AMSOIL Slip-Lock friction modifier.
Greases Use the Synthetic Heavy Duty Grease Part #GHD-CR for the steering joints grease fittings and pitman arm. The ball joints are non-greaseable. When they eventually wear out, make sure to replace them with NAPA's Fleet Series greaseable ball joints. The GHD has moly in it which is especially good for impact loading as encountered in suspension components. When one of your driveshaft u-joints wears out, I recommend replacing it with a greaseable Dana Spicer u-joint. The factory u-joints on the front axle shafts, front and rear driveshafts are all non-greaseable. Use the AMSOIL GHD synthetic grease.
Fuel Additives
AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate Performance Fuel Additive AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate (ADF) provides maximum diesel operating efficiency. It compensates for the variances in quality of different fuels (including bio-diesel) and the deficiencies of today's Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel (ULSD) for better engine operation. New engine technology, tighter tolerances and emissions regulations require high quality diesel fuel for long-term engine operations. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate improves diesel fuel quality to exceed today's stringent performance requirements. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate extends equipment life, lowers operating costs and improves diesel performance. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate provides the following benefits:
Use one ounce of AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate to five gallons of fuel High fuel prices are increasing operating costs for everyone. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate has proven in industry standard tests to improve fuel economy in used diesel engines by up to five percent. At $3.00 per gallon for diesel fuel, even a modest three percent improvement in fuel economy equals a savings of $0.09 per gallon. With a treat rate of one oz. of AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate to five gallons of fuel, at U.S. Preferred Customer/Dealer prices the net treat cost of AMSOIL ADF is $0.06 per gallon, bringing the total savings to $0.03 per gallon and negating the cost of AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate altogether. AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow Improver and Cetane Boost Combining AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate with a cold flow improvement property is not cost effective in the summer months, or to AMSOIL customers who live in the south. To keep costs down for Dealers and customers, AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate no longer includes a cold flow improver. Instead, AMSOIL provides new AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow Improver (DFF) for low-temperature applications below 40°F. Recommended mix ratio is one ounce of additive per five gallons of fuel. AMSOIL Cetane Boost will raise cetane levels up to 7 points for improved performance and fuel economy. This should get you started. Do not become overwhelmed by all there is to do. Just do a little bit at a time and eventually you will have everything converted over. Once you do, you will have a better performing and protected truck. Please contact me if you have any questions. I am here to assist you in using the very best AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants and Filtration Systems for your vehicle.

Diesel Oils and Oil Filter My first recommendations are to change your oil to the AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil Part #AME-04 (4 gallons). Cases of quarts or 5 gallons are also available. The 15W-40 AME is a 25,000-mile/1-year drain oil in the older 5.9L Cummins, however in the 6.7L Cummins with Diesel Particulate Filters on the exhaust we are recommending to change the oil at manufacturer’s specifications unless you are performing oil analysis. Use the AMSOIL EAO-80 (EA-1 Filter) Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter which has a change interval of 25,000-mile/1-year intervals, however on the 6.7L it should be changed when you change the oil at manf specs. Please note that Dodge Cummins engines with a 6.7L, EGR system and Diesel Particulate Filter on the exhaust system, as per Cummins specifications, permit the use of the AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium API CJ-4 Diesel Oil or the CI-4 Plus formula oil, 15W-40 AME or 5W-30 HDD. The change interval recommended is for the longest service interval established by the engine, vehicle or equipment manufacturer. Drain intervals may be extended based on oil analysis. Note: On all 2007 and newer models you must use the Amsoil Synthetic 5W-40 Premium API CJ-4 Diesel oil (Product Code: DEO) and change the oil (regardless of filter used) at the manufacturer’s longest recommended change interval.
Air Filters No recommendations Transmission Fluid Use the 5 Gallon size ATF-TP (CA- CASE) Synthetic Transmission Fluid at a cost of $125.00 (vs $171.50 retail). Use a transmission fluid exchange machine to install AMSOIL ATF in the automatic transmission.
